Want your dog to join a dog model agency?

Pet portrait photography

Is your dog a star in the making? If you’re thinking about whether your dog could make it as a top dog model, then this blog is for you!

Let’s explore what your dog needs to make it as a top dog model, and if you’re still into the idea, you can apply to join my dog model database.

What does my dog need to be a model?

Your dog’s breed doesn’t matter, but their training does! Brands look for all sorts of dogs to appear in their advertising and marketing materials, from popular breeds to rare breeds and crossbreeds too!

Your dog will need to be able to sit and stay as a minimum, to be a successful dog model! Having a solid level of basic obedience will really help your dog to perform well at a photoshoot, and to enjoy the process.

Be honest with any dog model agency you choose about your dog’s abilities and limitations. It’s crucial that your dog is happy and at ease at any photoshoot, so being upfront will allow the photographer to ensure that the shoot is suitable for your dog.

If you’re booked for a shoot, ensure that your dog has had a good walk and a chance to burn some energy before you arrive. Plus, make double sure they’ve had a chance to go to the toilet!

Your dog will need to be ready to work when they arrive, so set them up for success.

Modelling for dog advertising and marketing campaigns

Both pet brands and other businesses frequently use dogs in their marketing campaigns. Many of the dogs you see in adverts, on billboards, and across digital marketing platforms are dog models!

A lot of the commercial photography work I undertake involves working with dog models, and often the businesses I work with are seeking new talent to help represent their brand.

What does dog modelling involve?

As a dog model, your dog will be considered by companies planning a photoshoot to appear in their product photography, advertising campaigns, or other marketing activities.

Many are studio photoshoots, but sometimes it will involve shooting on location for lifestyle shots, like the ones at this dog friendly glamping site photoshoot.

How do I get my dog into modelling?

Well for starters, you can apply here! I am always looking for dogs to join my dog model database for upcoming commercial photoshoots.

I accept applications from all breeds of dog, all ages, all colours, and all abilities.

If you want to go big in the dog modelling world, then you’ll need a portfolio to show off your dogs skills and style. You can book a photoshoot with me to get started crafting your portfolio of gems.

Will I get free professional dog photography?

If your dog is successfully selected for a photoshoot, you’ll often be gifted some beautiful images of your dog for free. But, please be aware that this will be at the client’s discretion. Remember, they’ve paid for the shoot and they get final call on the images that are used and which images they share with you.

They usually are very happy to release some of the photos to the dog’s owner for personal use, but you may need to be patient as this isn’t the first thing on their agenda. There is a considerable amount of work following the photoshoot, with the client selecting the images, additional retouching being done and finally preparing the images for use in the campaign. And once that is done, very often the client will want to keep the images under wraps until the campaign has launched.
