Pet portrait photography

Whether you’re looking for somewhere to take your dog swimming in hot weather, or you simply have a water-loving hound who wants to get their paws wet all year round, this is the blog for you!

Swimming for dogs offers a huge range of benefits, from relieving pain for arthritic dogs to low-impact exercise for growing or injured dogs. It’s an excellent form of exercise all around.

Let’s take a look at the best spots in Sheffield to take your dog swimming.

Canine Hydrotherapy & Dog Swimming Pools in Sheffield

Aqua Vet, Heely

Aqua Vet offers both canine hydrotherapy and fun dog swim sessions. My dog George and I go there together and have a wonderful time in the water! But you don’t have to get in with your dog if you don’t want to!

Tidal Paws Dog Swimming, Barnsley

Fancy having an entire dog swimming pool all to yourself? Tidal Paws offers private dog swimming sessions with the support of qualified staff to assist you during your visit.

They provide life jackets and buoyancy aids for all dogs so you can safely help grow your dog’s confidence in the water.

Outdoor Dog Swimming Spots in Sheffield

There’s nothing quite like wild swimming in the great outdoors! So here are my top Sheffield picks for outdoor dog swimming.

However, please be mindful of blue algae in the waters, which can be toxic to dogs. And keep your eyes peeled for nesting birds and dog-hating swans!

Padley Gorge

Padley Gorge is a beautiful place to visit with your dog. There are tumbling waterfalls, flowing streams and plenty of woodlands to offer shade in hot weather.

It’s one of my favourite spots in Sheffield for dog photoshoots as the variety of landscapes and photo opportunities are vast!

For swimming, park at Longshaw Estate and take the trail route past the pond down to Padley Gorge.

Rivelin Valley

Rivelin Valley stretches 2 miles along the river Rivelin. Complete with a mostly shady nature trail, the water is perfect for a doggy paddle.

You can park on Rails Road for good access to the trail and the river.

Redmires Reservoir

Redmires Reservoir is situated near the Hallam Moors and boasts plenty of shallow streams and larger bodies of water ideal for a spot of doggy swimming.

There’s a car park at S10 4QZ, or you may find on-street parking if you’re lucky!

Glen Howe Park

Glen Howe is a beautiful walking spot, but beware; it can get very hilly! Running through the park, you will find the Tinker Brook on the Wharncliffe side, which is a lovely stretch of fern-lined stream for paddling.

A stretch of forest runs through the park, which is ideal for a shady potter on hot days.

You can park on Damasel Lane, S35 0DW

Forge Dam

Running through Forge Dam is the lovely Porter Brook, which streams right through the middle. There are plenty of shallow spots and low banks where your dog can easily get in.

The Forge Dam Cafe is really good, and there are dog water bowls outside for thirsty swimmers!

If you fancy a long walk, you can walk from the cafe, along the stream and all the way to Endcliffe Park…. another of my favourite dog-friendly photoshoot spots in Sheffield!

Park for free on Brookhouse Hill, S10 3TE.

Mill Houses Park

Mill Houses is a lovely local park with the River Sheaf running through it. There is an area where the river is very shallow, and the water is gentle, making it an ideal spot for a splash around.

There’s a nice little gravelly beachy area which makes access to the stream easy for your dog. You can cross the bridge here and easily access the river for a swim.

There is a cafe and plenty of sports and leisure facilities, including a skate park! So if your dog is reactive or doesn’t enjoy busy spots, this may not be the place for you!

There is free on-street parking and a pay and display car park on Abbeydale Road.

A variety of beautiful dog walking spots

There are so many beautiful dog walking spots in Sheffield, we are truly spoiled for choice. I hope you’ve discovered some new places to try out and I’d love to hear what you think after visiting!

Why not combine your swim with a dog photoshoot?

Dog photoshoots are all about capturing memories and special moments in time. The absolute best location for a dog photoshoot is one where you’re dog is happy, having fun and enjoying themselves.
